About our Rotary Club

Since its first meeting on 19th March 1946 and granting of its Charter on 13th June 1946, the club has packed into its 69 years some remarkable achievements.

The following are just some of the many projects carried out by the club –

  • Assistance to the newly formed Yarrawonga District Hospital and establishing Yarrawonga Foreshore, 
  • arranging Lord Mayor’s Portsea holiday camp for children, 
  • Christmas cheer for needy families, 
  • supported the Elderly Citizens clubrooms,
  •  inaugurated the first Pre-School Centre and Home Help Scheme,
  •  developed Rotary Park in Yarrawonga’s main street, 
  • sponsored the formation of a Rotary Club  in Cobram,
  • hosted a Rotary district conference,
  •  sent Rotary work teams to seven overseas projects to help build hospitals and schools,
  • conducted trade fairs, art shows and music festivals, 
  • careers nights for students, 
  • simulated job interviews and other methods of helping young people to prepare themselves for entry into the workforce,
  • hosted and exchanged many Rotary exchange students and local graduates to study overseas, 
  • sold blocks in a property development in Mulwala which boosted club funds, 
  • constructed three Rotundas with barbeque and picnic facilities in Yarrawonga and Mulwala, 
  • donated $50,000 to the redevelopment of the local hospital and $60,000 to the new Gorman Respite House,
  • formed four local probus clubs, 
  • established the Rotary Community Market as an on-going project
  • Donated $15000 to help establish the Yarrawonga & District Community Car

The Rotary Club of Yarrawonga-Mulwala looks back on its 67 years with quiet pride in its achievements, but determined as ever to extend its capacity to the fullest to meet the challenges ahead and to uphold the “Service Above Self” motto of Rotary International which celebrated a centenary of service in 2005.
